Best restaurants in Paris are many and varied, and of course it is well known that some of the finest cuisine in the world can be found in the French capital. This reputation is well upheld in the Saint-Germain des Pres district. This lively and charming neighbourhood, originally a small village during the Middle Ages, became a haunt of intellectuals, artists, writers and philosophers and remains an artistic and creative hub today. One of its chief areas of creativity can be found in the excellent restaurants and cafes prevalent here within easy walking distance of the Hotel du Danube .
Best restaurants in Paris close to the Hotel du Danube
To give you some idea of the wonderful selection of French cuisine in Saint-Germain des Pres, here are some great restaurants to try, all within fifteen minutes walk of our fine hotel.
The Bouillon Racine dates back to 1906. Bouillons were popular restaurants in Paris which first appeared in 1855, offering good quality food at affordable prices, and named after a nutritious broth. Only a handful of the authentic bouillons remain, and the Bouillon Racine is listed as a historical monument. Here the Art Nouveau décor reflects the glamorous Paris of the early 1900s.
Housed in a former mansion dating back to the 18th century, Laperouse has maintained its original design. This delightful restaurant has much of the same feel as when the likes of Victor Hugo, Emile Zola and Guy de Maupassant dined here. Today the cuisine is balanced between the modern and the traditional, with a distinct Mediterranean touch.
One of the capital's culinary institutions is Roger La Grenouille, which enjoys a distinct and intimate 1930s ambience. This well regarded restaurant offers some of the finest frog's legs à la Provencal in Paris.
The chef at La Petite Cour is the talented young Yannick Tessier. This charming establishment is set in a quaint side street and offers a romantic atmosphere with alcoves and cosy corners. It has a cobblestoned courtyard where roses twine about the stone walls and a fountain plays merrily.
